Sir Richard May Seminar on International Law and International Courts
The third Sir Richard May Seminar on International Law and International Courts will be held September 23-28, 2007 in The Hague, Netherlands. Scholarships are available to judges selected to participate in the program. Announcements about this Seminar have been sent to U.S. judges nominated by participants in the past two programs. Seminars in Argentina
Three seminars on insurance issues for judges were held in Argentina November 13-19 in Buenos Aires, Cordoba and La Plata. The faculty for the seminars included judges, jurists and insurance experts from the United States and judges and insurance experts from Argentina. Members of the U.S. delegation included James G. Apple, President of the International Judicial Academy; Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson of the Wisconsin Supreme Court; Judge Roger Titus of the United States District Court, District of Maryland; Glenn Pomeroy, Director of Governmental Affairs for Swiss Reinsurance America Corporation; and Dr. Robert Gibbons, President of the International Insurance Foundation.
The agenda for the Seminars was prepared by Judge Ricardo LiRosi, Resident Director of the Latin American Office of the International Judicial Academy, and Dr. Aldo Alvarez, Buenos Aires lawyer.
The International Judicial Academy is planning three series of seminars in 2007, as follows:
Mid June, 2007 – Seminars on scientific evidence for judges and courts, in Buenos Aires, Salta, and Mar de Plata
Late August, 2007 – Seminars on protection of intellectual property issues for judges and courts, in Buenos Aires and two other cities to be selected.
Mid November, 2007 – Seminars on issues of insurance for judges and courts, in Buenos Aires and two other cities to be selected.
