III International Conference on Training of the Judiciary
International Organization for Judicial Training

Barcelona

Organized by the International Organization for Judicial Training (IOJT).  The theme on which the Barcelona conference will focus is “How to train the trainers.” Two main subjects will be dealt with: Judicial Ethics and Judicial Skills. Judicial schools and judicial training institutes around the world are deeply committed to these subjects. Financial support provided by ASIL.

International Law Weekend 2007

This long-running weekend conference  will explore the content and nature of public international law and how the political and judicial branches of the U.S. government should interact with it in the post-9/11 era while, quite removed from these controversies, international law continues to develop and expand.  Trade agreements and arbitral conventions, for example, play a critical role in facilitating the ever-growing business transactions across borders, and regional human rights institutions have expanded the protection of individual rights.

HiiL Rule of Law Conference on ROL
Hague Institute on the Internationalisation of Law
October 26-27, 2007
The Hague, Netherlands

The first annual conference of the Hague Institute on the Internationalisation of Law will be held on 26-27 October 2007 in the Peace Palace in The Hague and will constitute the first conference of the ‘Law of the Future’ series. The conference will deal with the topic of internationalisation of the Rule of Law. Law of the Future will bring together key experts from academia and practice, the various research groups engaged in HiiL research, together with a wider audience. It is anticipated that around 80 people will participate in the conference.

28th Conference of European Justice Ministers

The Ministers of Justice of the member States of the Council of Europe will meet in Lanzarote in order to identify problems and promote and develop a common approach to improve access to justice for vulnerable groups. Two specific categories of particularly vulnerable persons will be highlighted: migrants and asylum seekers, and children.

IAWJ Asia Regional Meeting
Korea Chapter of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ)
October 26-27, 2007
Seoul, Korea

The main theme will be "CEDAW in Asia." The program will focus on issues such as observance of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in Asian countries - current situation, challenges, and future outlook, judicial application of CEDAW, and ratification of the optional protocols.

When the Fighting Stops: Roles and Responsibilities in Post-Conflict Reconstruction

Conflict has risen to the top of the international community s agenda.  This international law conference will assess multilateral strategies on conflict and reconstruction, highlighting three perspectives:  (i) the current US policy on reconstruction, (ii) the role of the private sector and (iii) the plan of the UN s newly created Peacebuilding Commission.   Panelists will also assess reconstruction efforts to integrate women, civil society, and transitional courts into the post-conflict architecture.  This conference will bring together diplomats, academics, practitioners, and representatives from civil society and international organizations to explain, debate and consider the strengths and weaknesses of today s mechanisms for responding to conflict.
