As international arbitration assumes a more dominant
position in the world of international law, international arbitrators are
becoming more important to the international law movement and deserve to have
their leaders recognized internationally.
One international arbitrator who has moved into position
as a major figure in international arbitration is Alexis Mourre of Paris, who
was a founding member of the French international arbitration firm of Castaldi
Mourre & Partners, which has 30 partners. He has been a member of the Paris Bar since
1998 and has been active in the international arbitration activities outside of
presenting or hearing cases. He is past vice chair of the International Court of Arbitration and past vice
chair of the arbitration committee of the International Bar Association.
Morre was recently nominated president of the International Court of Arbitration, He will replace John Beechy of the United Kingdom. The recommendation for this appointment was submitted to the International Chamber of Commerce World Council in June of last year.
According to one description of his activities, he is head
of the arbitration and litigation department of his law firm. As of 2013 “he
has acted in more than 170 ad hoc or institutional commercial arbitration
proceedings as counsel, expert witness, co-arbitrator, chairman or sole
arbitrator.”
