Good Governance and Non-State Actors in International Law: An African Perspective

The International Law Association’s 2007 Regional Conference, sponsored by the South African Branch of the International Law Association (SABILA) in conjunction with the VerLoren van Themaat Centre for Public Law Studies of the University of South Africa. The conference aims to bring together international lawyers from Africa and the rest of the world to discuss good governance as a developing phenomenon in international law with particular reference to the changing role of non-state actors in the international arena. Human rights, corporate governance, environmental law and sustainable development issues will be addressed through academic papers and panel discussions.

Lisbon Network Workshop on Data Protection in Criminal Proceedings

A workshop for judges and prosecutors on data protection in criminal proceedings will be held from 12 to 14 September 2007 in Strasbourg. Existing information systems, principles and guarantees regulating the access to personal data, the fundamental right to personal data protection and its limits in the police and legal sector will be the main themes of this event, organized by the public and private law Unit of the Council of Europe.
